Levi Clarke

Levi was born in James Hill, Clarendon, Jamaica. He is the 5th child of the late Josiah and Louise Clarke. He has 9 siblings. At the age of 13, his father Josiah died and Levi was saved that very year. Levi attended the James Hill School. He started preaching at a very early age and yearned to go to Bible School, but this was not possible because of the finances. He quickly became the youth leader for the Church of God in the region.

In 1967, Levi met and became friends with the late Elder Green who was a pastor in the Church of God of Prophecy. He joined the church and together they started the James Hill COGOP. Levi’s mother, a brother and a sister also joined the church. During his time in the Jamaican church, he met Pastor H. L. Martin and they became very good friends. He continued to build the church until his migration to Canada in April 1969.

Levi migrated to Hamilton April 4th, 1969 to join his beloved sister Evelyn. He worked at the steel companies and other form of employment until early 1970. He spent a few months in Toronto worshipping at the West End Church until December 1970. During this time he met his wife Floreth and they soon got married in March 1971 and she joined him in Hamilton. Levi missed the church in Toronto and so started the Hamilton prayer meeting and later that very year, it was organized as a church under the leadership of Bishop James Peters.

While following the pursuit of a robot operator for a company in Hamilton, Levi was very active in the church and continued to work alongside Pastor Peters. In 1974, Pastor Peters migrated to USA and Levi was appointed the Senior Pastor of the Hamilton COGOP. This was a successful ministry and he led the church until August 1979 when he was transferred to the Montreal COGOP to be the Senior Pastor.

Levi while leading the Montreal church, Levi became the youngest Bishop in COGOP Canada and the youngest District Overseer. He realized that he needed to further his education, so he went back to school to continue his formal education. He finished High School at the Montreal High School, and also took the five levels of French at the French Adult Centre and subsequently enrolled in Theological studies at the Concordia University in Montreal. In August 1985 surprisingly, Levi was appointed to be the National Overseer of Belgium and France. In June 1986, Levi left Montreal to fulfill his new appointment as National Overseer to Belgium, France, (Zaire) DRC and Cameroon. He experienced some difficulties in the transition and finally moved his family to Belgium January 1987. While in Belgium he continued his Theological studies at the ICI institute. In December 1989, he moved the children back to Canada to live with his sister Evelyn and then took up residence in Cameroon with his wife. It was while ministering, travelling and supervising on this great continent that he was introduced to the International Seminary by Bishop B. Lawrence.

Bishop Levi quickly enrolled at the International Seminary of Florida to pursue his Theological Education. Even though Levi has many diplomas and certificates in Biblical Studies, he had a longing to be more advanced in the word. He was granted an honorary Doctorate by the Maryland Theological Seminary and College in Baltimore in December 1997. He successfully studied and obtained his B. A degree in Rel. Ed from the International Seminary and presently has a masters degree in Counseling from the same seminary.

In 1999, Bishop Clarke and Floreth moved back from Cameroon to Canada. August 1999, while making plans to supervise the British Virgin islands, Bishop Clarke was appointed the National Overseer of Canada East. This position he filled until December 2008. He served as President of the Canadian COGOP Corporation, Legal Representative, Administrator and National Overseer. Under his leadership, Eastern Canada saw a tremendous renewal in membership, finances, goals and vision. The Canadian COGOP is now a well-known and visible organization.

During the General Assembly in Nashville, Tenn. USA, which was held August 2008; Bishop Dr. Clarke and his wife Floreth were appointed to a new position. This is to bring about supervision, assistance and training to the continent of Africa, because of the tremendous growth in membership. January 2009, Bishop Dr. Levi Clarke embarked on anew mission as Area Presbyter to Africa. This is a new and great task, but by God’s grace and strength, all things are possible. He craves your prayers.
